Our Vision
We view cohousing as a type of intentional community that combines private homes with shared indoor and outdoor spaces designed to support an active and interdependent community life.
Navigating a balance of independence and privacy in communal settings is important in order to achieve:
- common spaces and activities, with privacy
- engagement, without immersion
- participation, without obligation
- responsibilities, without burden
- guidelines, without policing
These are the salient components of our SHARED VISION to collectively conceive, design, develop, and manage:
- urban living in connection with the natural world
- independent living with interdependence — mutually supportive & collaborative relationships with neighbors
- aging and raising a family in an intergenerational, racially and socio-economically mixed community
- creating a resident-initiated development model replicable in other Philadelphia neighborhoods
We envision the USE & DESIGN to encompass:
- a multi-family building, mixed-use preferably, with ground floor retail benefiting cohousing community and neighborhood
- 15 minimum private apartments with kitchen, living/dining, bedroom, and bath
- shared spaces with kitchen, dining, living/gathering/activities, and garden
- sustainable and universal design in terms of: architecture, ecology, equity, economy, longevity
